The Semester is Over

I seriously never thought I'd be able to say that. This back to school thing was a lot harder than I thought it would be - and I didn't even go full time! My plan for the fall is four classes - so hopefully I can keep up when that starts. Anyway - my grades are all in and I did well. Two A's and a B. The B was in math and I worked my butt off for that grade! So, I'm proud of myself. I expect Zach to be A/B honor roll, so living up to that myself was very important to me. Now I have about a month off before I start my summer class. Just one. I'm taking music as a night class. I don't know about that one - but it was either music, theater, or art appreciation. I'm rolling the dice with this one! So, what am I going to do with myself? Oh, I'm going to make a pest out of myself at Zach's school and read. I'm planning on reading a lot. Until next time ~ Kris

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in #39

Time to meet up with other MilSpouse bloggers and learn more about each other. Hosted by Wife of a Sailor , it's time for the Friday Fill-In. Here are this weeks questions: 1. Have you and your spouse agreed to live in separate locations (a geographical bachelor tour) knowing that the short-term inconvenience would have long-term benefits for your family? How did it work for you?  submitted by  When Good People Get Together Yes, but it was me. I did go to Iceland knowing that we would be able to pick a follow on. We wanted to come back to the east coast, so that's how we worked that. Was it worth it? Sure, we spend so much time apart anyway, why not get something out of it? 2. What is your favorite thing about being a MilSpouse?  submitted by  Sarah Ruth Today Um, I don't know if I have a favorite thing. We haven't moved or anything since I retired, so my friends are the friends I had when I was active duty. Oh I've got it - my favorite thing is I don'

Oh Thursday. How I love you what with Goodnight Moon 's song linkup. I get to spend hours going through YouTube trying to find the exact song I want to share this week. It's harder than you think - I mean after all, the music I love has been around for longer than some of those kids in my English class..... Today I had an exceptionally hard time picking. I'm not sure why - but I hate to disappoint. Or ruin my reputation as the rock girl. Then it came to me - shuffle the iPod Kris and whatever song comes up first is the one you find. Well, that seems easy enough because let's face it - if it's on my iPod, I listen to it. So to further diminish my standing with all my Classic Rock friends here is the first song that came up in my shuffle. Don't turn it off - just get up and move - you know you want to!! Don't forget to link up. Or at the very least go visit and hear some songs that were made after the turn of the century! Until next time ~ Kris

A Look at the Week Ahead

Spring break for the boy is finally over. Not that I Erik or I had a break! I still had school and Erik worked on a landscaping project all week. He did a damn good job too! I'll have to post pictures later. So, Zach heads back to school, and he still has over a month left! They started in August, you'd think they'd finish in May, but that's not the case - they go until the first week of June. But with a field trip and a field day during the month, maybe it won't seem so bad. This week is my finals week. My paper is due tomorrow and it's actually done! Yes, I know - you think I'm  pulling your leg - but I'm really not. Since I got a passing grade on my first draft, I didn't have that much to do to fix my final draft. Tuesday is our last weekly scout meeting before the summer. We have summer activities planned; camping in May, Rain-gutter Regatta in June, and roller skating in July but as for the weekly meetings this is it. I'm proud to repo

Oh my goodness, two weeks in a row! I must be on a roll here. Time to get to know some of the most awesome people on earth - MilSpouses! This lovely hop is hosted by Wife of a Sailor . Before I start answering questions though I just want to say I think this is awesome. MilSpouses are pretty much the same no matter what branch they are married to. Granted, each service has it's own quirks but that doesn't stop us from standing together as the "home front force". 1.  How many pets do you have? And what type? submitted by   Life and Times of a Displaced Jersey Girl   Ok, so currently we have no pets. This is the first time in years though. The boy and I are trying desperately to talk Erik into a dog - the boy needs a dog - but alas, he's standing firm on his "no" - for now. 2.  What are your favorite projects to do while hubby is away? submitted by  my-inspired-nest Honestly, I'm not I project doer.  I always think I will, but I never do.

Thursday already? Dang - that means I have my final paper due and my finals. Urg! But I couldn't let this week pass by without hooking up with Goodnight Moon for her song linkup! I know, I'm getting a reputation on the link for being the "old school" girl. Because, well, I'm old and I think the music I grew up with (spent young adult hood with?) is the best. But today I decided to share the video that got me hooked on Glee. I came to the Glee party late - this episode was the first one I watched and I was sucked into the Glee world lickity-split. And for inquiring minds - yes, I did a marathon and got all caught up. So, here is my video for the week - the one that started my Glee addiction. Go hit some of the other links and hear some good new songs! I promise, next week, I'll be back to my old school ways! Until next time ~ Kris

Student Athletes - My Rant

Before I start - I know that college sports is what brings in the money. It doesn't mean I agree with the way student athletes are allowed to, well, do whatever and stay in school and continue to play sports. What brings on my slightly irrational rant? The last week and a half of English class. Here's how it was supposed to go down: April 11- first draft of final paper due. Myself and about six other students (and I use that term loosely) were supposed to bring in enough copies for the class to peer review. Two people brought papers, myself and one guy. April 13 - The rest of the (now late) papers should have made it to class. Unfortunately I didn't make it to class - I had an appointment that I tried but couldn't reschedule. As per my Professors rules, I let her know in advance so I wouldn't lose any points. April 18 - Peer review due. We were supposed to have two. Yours truly only had one. Now I'm losing points because I'm in a class full of slacke

Time to learn more about all the fabulous milspouses out there! Hosted by Wife a Sailor it's time for 1.    With PCS moves happening every few years, do you take the time to paint and decorate your home?   We always find a place to hang up our pictures, but we lived in this house for about 4 years before we painted any room but the living room. I actually just bought curtains for my son's room too. I grew up military and my mom always had trouble reusing the drapes from a previous house, so I've shied away from them. 2. If you could live in any home on a television series, what would it be?   Oh, that's a toughie. I like the apartment that the Russo family lives in on Wizards of Waverly place. I've always wanted to live in a big city above a business like that. I had friends in Germany who lived above a bakery and the apartment was a lot bigger than you would think! 3. What inspired you to start your blog?   After I retired I started homeschooling - then m

Time to link up with Goodnight Moon again I know I'm a little late to the party today but I think it's worth the wait. I thought it was time for a Power Ballad (yes capital because they are a genre all their own - a lost art for sure!) I picked this one not only because it's one of my favorites but because Brett Michaels is hot (even still) Enjoy! Until next time ~ Kris

My Future Daughter in Law

"I wonder if I'll ever meet the person I'm supposed to marry and live with for the rest of my life." my 10 year old son wondered on the way home from school today. He's 10 - sheesh - really? Are we going to have this  conversation already? O.K. Mom, deep breath... "Honey, you're 10 you have at least 20 years before you have to start worrying about that." (you know you love how I made the acceptable marrying age 30, that my friends, was quick thinking!) "I know what she's going to look like though. I picture her in my head." "What's she look like baby?" "She's got long blonde hair, and doesn't wear glasses. Oh, and she's wearing a red dress." OK, so now I know, anytime I see a blonde in a red dress - I need to take her out at the knees! Until next time ~ Kris

What's on my Phone?

Oh, it's been far too long and I have a ton of pictures. I swore I wasn't going to sit down and do this until my paper was finished and now, it finally is. Not only finished but the required 14 copies are printed, stapled, and ready for class tomorrow. I do have to go finish some math though - but I'll do that later. Grab a drink, a snack and whatever else you want because it's finally time for I'm starting with the beautiful Miss Emma The beautiful Miss Emma and her beautiful mom  Kids sure can sleep the craziest ways! I love the look on her face! Next up is Mr. John Jr. What an awesome smile! "Daddy and Baby sleeping in a tree"  or on the couch sleeping, that's the point here! Is there not a time when we've all wanted to do this? He asked for it - no, he literally did my crazy son is the same way - thinks it's fun I just think it's quiet! Because it just tastes better when you steal it from your sisters bowl!

Head over to Goodnight Moon and listen to some awesome songs! This week was easy for me, this has been the song I hear in my head every morning when I'm driving to school. Every. Single. Morning. Enjoy! Until next time ~ Kris

Zach's New Word

And it's not even a bad one, which surprises me considering the wonderful tidbits he brings home from school. Elementary school is so different now *sigh* Epic. Yes epic is his new word. He uses it all the time now. Everything is 'epic'. I get angry - it's epic he had a good day at school - it's epic he daydreams he's fighting a battle - you guessed it - an epic battle Weird thing, he's pretty good at using it correctly, so the other day Erik asks "what does epic mean?" Um yeah, the boy didn't know - he just figured out where it belonged in sentences and then used it as he saw fit. Yep - that's my boy. Sorry this story wasn't more, well, epic. Until next time ~ Kris

Once you miss...

It's so easy to miss a day (or three) of blogging, even if you're supposed to be doing it every day. I guess it's like the gym - once you miss a few, it's very easy to keep missing. I'm not trying to be lazy - but I've been so hammered with school and scouts it seems like I can't get anything accomplished! I figured since I haven't bitched talked about school lately - except for the foot in mouth incident - that I would let y'all know how it's going. This semester ends at the end of the month. I figured my current grades, and as of right now I'm passing all my classes. Some with a higher grade than others, but still, passing is passing! I would love to graduate with honors though so I'm really working on getting good grades. For my finals, I have one more paper (rough draft due Monday - yes, I'm still Miss Procrastinator - but I have started handwriting some stuff to put together!), one last Sociology test, and a Math final (2

Zach's Birthday Party

Image
Who's the lamest mom ever? Who? Well, me of course! Last weekend we had Zach's birthday party and I just remembered I took some pictures. Which means I'm just now posting them. *sigh* I forgot to take pictures during musical chairs and the pinata, but at least I remembered to take some pictures. Remember me, lamest mom ever? Yeah. These are supposed to be the mushrooms from  Mario Do you know how hard it is to make Mario mushrooms? yeah, especially when your not very creative He was happy with them though Partay decorations! Time for (cup) cake and ice cream Zach eats neither, but it wouldn't be a birthday party without them In addition to musical chairs and the pinata Zach requested twister. I think the kids had fun. ( and even though there is no picture proof the adults also engaged in a game of twister!) It wouldn't be me taking pictures if we didn't have the obligatory random shots. Everyone seemed to have a good time - and Zach had t

Today I thought I'd join in on the MilSpouse Friday Fill-In. I'm rather random about doing these but I really liked some of today's questions! Link up with Wife of a Sailor to read the MilSpouse answers! 1. What romance movie scene reminds you of your spouse or s/o and the LOVE that you share? We don't watch romantic movies. We like comedies, he likes action, but romantic - yeah, not so much. So, I guess I don't have an answer to this question. Not off to a great start, huh? 2. If you were allowed to deploy with your husband to a war zone would you and why? I have deployed with my husband to a war zone. Believe me ladies, whatever you think is going on is 1000 times worse when you are there and know what's going on. Plus our son was living with my sister and it was suckish being separated from him. So, if given the opportunity - no I definitely would not deploy with my husband again.  3. Have you ever done anything intentionally/unintentionall
