Honoring Our Fallen

Image
Saturday we went out with our Cub Scout Pack, the Boy Scout Troop, a bunch of Veteran's and Active Duty to honor our fallen heros for Memorial Day. Our small service was to place flags on the graves. Regrettably, I forgot to take pictures of the actual flag placing - I was immersed in looking for graves and making sure the boys were being respectful. I believe I can say we did not forget any of our fallen. I did take some pictures while we were getting instructions - this was just part of the group that showed up. There were a lot of people and we covered many of the cemeteries in Sumter County. It made me feel proud to know that people still cared. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day and took at least a few minutes to remember why we celebrate this holiday. Until next time ~ Kris

Happy Belated Birthday Cindy

Image
Friday was my sisters 46th birthday. Well, would have been, but we lost her in 2006. So, I thought I'd share the story of how her oldest got her name. Her name is Amanda Elizabeth - but Cindy wanted to name her Mandy Beth. Why? Maybe some of you have an inkling already - but just in case you don't - songs. Cindy's favorite song was Mandy by Barry Manilow and the guy who donated the sperm, well his favorite song was Beth by Kiss. In case there are any youngsters out there who don't know these songs, I'm including them. I just wanted you to be aware that my whole family picks names in random weird ways - not just me with the names in a hat! I miss you Cindy. Until next time ~ Kris

Field Day 2011

Image
I know, field day was over a week ago. I'm not being lame, but really, too much happened at one time! So now I'm finally getting around to posting the field day pictures. My batteries went dead really early into the day - I guess I took too many pictures the day before.  they did boys vs. girls in volleyball  my future daughter in law  scooter races inside - where it wasn't a million degrees! That's it - all my field day pictures before my battery died. I missed the water relay - and that was good! Until next time ~ Kris

The End of Fourth Grade

Image
So, yesterday Zach was promoted from the 4th grade. I didn't take too many pictures (I know, hard to believe, huh?) but I did get some. Some are on hold for next weeks Embrace the Camera, but I'm willing to share the rest. Of course. This school year went by so fast. I still don't know if I'm sold on the SC public schools. Zach seems to be doing well though so we may stick it out for another year. Undecided at this point. I have to say that now he has been in private school, public school, and homeschool. He's the most randomly educated child I know. But enough with the yap yapping, here are the pictures.  Getting his awards  and what did he earn?  A/B Honor Roll for the year  A/B Honor Roll for the 4th quarter  Promotion to 5th grade  Here he is with his friends (except for the kid on the far left -  Zach says he's just some random kid  who decided to join in!) Chit chatting after.  The boy he's talking to  is a 4th grader too no - I'm not ki

What's Your Song? 5.26.11

Image
Oh my - Thursday is a busy day! I'm linking up with Amber at Goodnight Moon for her What's Your Song hop. I love this hop because I'm so old school with my music and it allows me to hear lots of new songs that get tuned out. I mean - I watched American Idol last night and was not impressed with Lady Gaga or Beyonce but Judas Priest and Steven Tyler? Well, you see why I need my musical horizons expanded, right? But you're here for music and I'm being all wordy and weird. I picked this song because I heard a George Michael song on the radio the other day and while searching through videos I found this one. So I said to myself "Self, what's better than George Michael AND Sir Elton John?" Well, nothing - so here it is! Until next time ~ Kris

I'm so not ready to think about 5th grade right now OK so here we go...  this is our picture at the State House  from the field trip I concentrate too much I think! But Zach - well that boy is always ready to have his picture taken  And this one is from field day you can't tell but we are wearing matching t shirts! {of course - like I wasn't going to buy field day shirts?} This week instead of linking up with Emily  {I hope you feel better soon!} The link is with Amy at Buggie and Jellybean So link up - and give props

*Fourth Grade Field Trip*

Image
So, Thursday I ventured forth with the 4th grade from Cherryvale on their one and only field trip this year. We went to the SC State Museum and the State House. It was a long day, but the kids seemed to enjoy it and really, isn't that the only thing matters? The museum was hosting an Animal Grossology Exhibit - and boy, was it named correctly! I took so many stinkin' pictures. This post is just a select few from the museum - I'll have to do the State House later. I'm not patient enough to sort through all 100 of them for one post! On the train that used to run from Charleston to Augusta Our small tour group  Learning about school from back in the day  Part of the Animal Grossology Exibit The fly talked and moved just to make it more weird!  Mrs. Dantzler - she was Zach's homeroom Social Studies and ELA teacher this year  Miss Shaw and Mrs. Bright -  Mrs. Bright is in the white sweater she was Zach's math teacher this year  Now you can see Miss Shaw

I've got to start making our appointments six months apart! But here we are sporting our new looks! I actually took it with my phone - I'm getting better with the phone at least - the camera still needs a ton of work! Until next time ~ Kris

What's Your Song? 5.19.11

Image
Thursday - I had a different song picked out for today. Then I went on a field trip to the State Museum and the State House. I saw some things that were disturbing (but trust me that's another post!). This song was in my head almost the whole trip. So, hook up with Goodnight Moon and hear some other tunes! Until next time ~ Kris
