Something Different

Today I thought I'd do something different.  I want to introduce you to some of the blogs I follow and I thought, well, I'll start at the top of the list.  The top of the list is Shannon and her blog is here.  Shannon is one of my real life friends who blog.  That's important, because I follow a lot of blogs, and even though I will say stuff like "my friend's blog" they don't know me and I don't know them really.

How I met Shannon - It was a dark and stormy night.  No, I'm kidding.  We met in Goldsboro, NC.  Her husband was a very young Airman who worked with me.  Fresh out of basic and tech school.  They were babies really, to my 30-something self.  I may have even asked Jay if his mom knew he was playing Air Force!  He brought her to my little controller window one day and said "This is my wife, Shannon."

My first impression of Shannon - "She's hot."  Seriously.  The kind of girl a 30-something person like me could easily hate if she just gave me a chance.  She never did.  She not only was (and still is!) one of the most beautiful women I've ever met, she's awesome as a person.  I don't think she even knows how cute she is.  She is a wonderful person inside and out - the very person every one should strive to be like.  She's kind, compassionate, loving, and the list goes on and on.

My funniest memory of Shan and Jay - When Jay came to my little controller window and said "Shannon is pregnant".  He looked freaked out.  I asked "Is that a good thing?"  He smiled and said "Yes".  Just kids I thought - barely married - in a place far from home.  I wasn't nearly as sure as he was, but they were happy and I was happy for them (and jealous - we'd been trying for 5 years to get pregnant with no luck).  They were (and still are) totally and completely in love with each other.  They handled it just fine.

Shannon was Zach's first daycare provider.  Her oldest was about a year old when I went back to work.  Zach was on the waiting list for a daycare slot, but it wasn't open yet.  With a one year old at home she offered to take on a two month old too.  The first day she even let me wake him up during my lunch hour and hold him and cry.  If her neighbors hadn't been all nosey I would have let her keep watching him until they left NC too.  But as any military person knows, there are people who make it their business to make everyone else miserable.  As much as I wanted to let her keep watching Zach, I couldn't risk them getting in trouble for "unlicensed daycare".  Stupid people.

Something the Malls have seen that no one outside our family has seen - Erik break down.  They watched Zach for us while I had to take Erik to the airport when he left for his 1 year remote.  Zach was five months old.

The family of three I saw for the last time about 10 years ago is now a family of five.  But I know if I walked into her house today, we would have a cup of coffee and pick up right where we left off.  Because friends like that are life-time friends.

I love your comments and I read them all. I'm not very good at replying to them though. It's one of my many downfalls. I hope you'll leave some anyway!
