{Mother's Day}

Happy Mother's Day! My mom has been gone for almost 7 years, and I still miss her a lot ~ but it feels like it gets easier every year. If you watch any TV you know what Mom "wants" this year. Chocolate diamonds, a new car, flowers, blah blah blah. Well, as a mom I know what I want - and believe me, it's none of those things the commercials are touting as what will make mom happy. I barely wear jewelry, not even my wedding rings {gasp!}. I have a van that I love. My husband knows not to waste any money on flowers {a lesson I taught him early in our relationship!}. So, what does this mama want? I'd really like to not cook dinner OR do dishes for the day. But, I scared my husband away from doing dishes by rearranging all his hard work too many times! So I will end up doing dishes (and probably cooking dinner too - who goes out to eat on Mother's Day? Imagine the crowds, ugh). I can't say "nothing" because that's not an appropriate answer...

Mother's Day 2011

Dear Mom, It's been four years now since I last called you and wished you a Happy Mother's Day. Four years since I sent you flowers (tulips and iris' of course!). I still miss you terribly. I thought it would get easier as time went by, but it doesn't because so many amazing things happen and I just think "Dang - Mom would love this or get a kick out of that." Or whatever the situation calls for. So, I thought I'd let you know what happened this year. The things that would have tickled you pink and the things that would have made you madder than a wet hen. You have a new great grandson. His name is John. He's cute as a button. But another boy? Ugh?! Remember when we couldn't buy a boy in this family - now we get a girl and it's like Christmas! I think perhaps Cathy's boys and Zach will have to have the next string of girls - and then they will wonder where all the boys are! You will be happy to know I sent Zach back to "regular...

Remembering Mom

Tomorrow is Mother's Day. In July I will have been without my mom for four years. I know many people have been without their mom's for much longer. I wonder how they've managed so long. This year I am missing my mom terribly. My mom wasn't perfect, but she was wonderful. She taught me so much. Sometimes I can still hear her in my head when I'm trying to make a decision. I didn't always listen to her when she was alive - and I still don't! She (like most of my family & friends) would have hated the fact that I homeschool. I think she's looking down saying "Ok, maybe you were right this time." LOL Naw! What she's saying is "Get your butt back to work to pay for Catholic School!" Sorry Mom! I was never my mom's favorite "too outspoken", "too stubborn" she would say. That's OK too. As I grew older we ended up being friends too. Those 'bad' qualities ended up being some of the th...
